Book of the Day

A Guide to Prayer for All God’s People
Rueben P. Job and Norman Shawchuck

Rueben Job and Norman Shawchuck's Guides to Prayer have been spiritually helpful and inspiring to many people, including me, through the years. The original book was A Guide to Prayer for Ministers and Other Servants. This second one, All God's People, includes daily prayer, scripture readings, quotes, and an outline for monthly personal retreats.   More about the book.

THANK YOU BETH, for being a co-companion on this journey. It has been a grace-filled journey for me. Thanks too, to the many others who have been sharing your inner journey. God Bless.

This little community will carry on in my heart and prayers. I found myself again this morning in I Corinthians 13. By now, my Bible must just automatically open there. I continue to ask the Spirit to make my love more like Christs. I look at the characteristics in verses 4 and 5 - those are opposites of how my love is displayed. Oh, that my love would be Christlike. Also, Psalm 34:14...seek peace and pursue it. Hard to do that when my love is riddled with selfishness. Spirit, keep these verses at the forefront of my mind today, and may my actions glorify You.

Thanks Beth for walking this path with me - with us - during the season. As I am wrapped in God's cloak of love, I will carry each lesson and each of you in my heart. May we all continue our journey of faith, growing forever in His grace.

"Uncluttered Heart" was so much more than a devotional book. Thank you for sharing yourself with us, for making this a truly interactive journey through Advent to Epiphany. I will miss your daily insights. May God continue to bless your writing.

Thank you. I am putting the book in a place I will be sure to find it next advent and will probably try to organize a prayer group around it.

May the Light of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ, make His face to shine upon all of you..... as you spread His Light each and every day in the sphere of influence He has chosen for you. "His Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness will never put it out"..... Watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy this past week really brought that home to me! HE is already victorious!! Onward and upward, dear fellow pilgrims!

Gifts come in more than three flavors (gold, frankincense & myrrh). Blessings and prayers of thanksgiving this Epiphany day for this online community. Praise God for Beth's willingness to lead this journey through Advent and Christmas.

I'm sad to come to the end! The addition of text message reminders and your wonderful photography have made my morning meditation time last throughout the day. I'm going to use your song for centering times during the day at work when I get distracted and scattered. You are a blessing in so many lives!

Thank you all for your gracious comments. It has been an honor to be with you these days. You've enriched my life.

Today we are eating a King's Cake from a Mexican bakery here in town. When I cut my piece, i found the baby that was baked inside. That means that I get to bring the cake next year on Epiphany. What a great way to end this season of The Uncluttered Heart.

I wanted to let you know that I'll be joining my friend Pamela Hawkins for this year's Lenten Journey. She's the author of The Upper Room's Lenten book -- The Awkward Season. (Pam is also the editor of Weavings Journal.) I just spoke with her and she plans to have a website for the book -- coming soon -- and to host daily prayer and reflection during Lent (Ash Wednesday will be February 17th). When I know the URL for the book, I'll post it here. If you'd like to check out The Awkward Season, learn more here.

You might also want to check out Daily Reflections from The Upper Room. This daily feature is produced by my office and was the inspiration for the format of The Uncluttered Heart. There is a fine online community already in place there. I know that we would all be welcome there.

Thank you again for being present with me during these days of Advent and Christmas. May you be light in the world today and every day.

Blessings,
Beth

Beth, I admire your daily consistency of making your thoughts available to us in such an easy going manner. Thanks for all of the effort behind the scenes, and the time you devoted to the exaansion of this Series. Bleasings.

I laughed out loud and LOVED the final photograph! I pray for joy and peace this year, for healing and laughter and telling the truth, for an easy expression of emotions, and for miracles and an abundance of blessings.

Thanks, also, Beth for letting us know about "The Awkward Season"; I look forward to exploring that!

God bless us every one. :0)

What a blessing this journey has been for me. I will look for other spiritual practices to continue through the year. Thank you!

Thank you, Beth, both for your website and advent study. Although I found it a bit late in the season, it was a helpful reminder to me that I need to get back to what is most important...spending time alone with God.

I appreciated all aspects of the study....photography, prose, music and God's Word.
They are very much a part of who I am:-)

I wanted to share the title of a book that was helpful in my own journey into
prayer, "Invitation to Solitude and Silence" by Ruth Haley Barton. I am excited
to explore the books you referenced in the study.

I hope you continue your online ministry in addition to all that you do.

Thanks again. May your New Year be abundant in God's blessings, grace
and love.

Blessings,

Lynn

May each of us truly know God's love for us. For if we have His love -- and we do -- and we BELIEVE He loves us despite the mess we can make of things sometimes, then all will be ok. Really. Amen.

Dear Beth,

I opened my email this morning and felt a real sense of loss.

So I'm sending this reply back to you to tell you how much I missed my "morning fix"...I have so enjoyed these emails and hope that you will consider doing them again on a daily basis soon!

You are a blessing!
